Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China will actively support the development strategies of Tajikistan and will help the country improve its economy, during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Saturday in Dushanbe.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, recalled Rahmon’s state visit to China to attend the China-Central Asia Summit last year, during which the two heads of state announced to establish the China-Tajikistan community with a shared future featuring everlasting friendship, solidarity, mutual support and mutual benefit. Wang said it set clear goals for the development of bilateral relations and sent a positive signal to the two peoples and the world.

“China will continue to firmly support Tajikistan in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and firmly oppose external interference in Tajikistan’s internal affairs,” said Wang. “No matter how the international situation changes, China will always be Tajikistan’s trustworthy friend and partner.”

Rahmon said Tajikistan reached a number of consensuses with China during his visit last year and that significant results have been achieved with their implementation. He said promoting relations with China is a priority of Tajikistan’s foreign policy and that Tajikistan has been unswervingly adhering to the one-China principle and acknowledges that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

He expressed hope to keep close high-level exchanges with China, strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, energy, minerals, transportation, agriculture, green industry and artificial intelligence, jointly combat the “three forces” and constantly strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

He also said China plays a vital role in international and regional affairs and that Tajikistan is willing to closely coordinate with China on multilateral platforms.

The Chinese foreign minister expressed willingness to strengthen security cooperation with Tajikistan to combat all kinds of terrorism and consolidate their coordination in multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the China-Central Asia mechanism, to protect the common interests of the two countries and other developing countries and contribute to the prosperity and stability of the region and the world.

Wang will also hold talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin during his visit.
