A resident of the city of Isfara, Sughd region, was detained by police officers on suspicion of fraud, which was committed 9 years ago, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan reports.
“The suspect, in February 2014, using confidence, took $13,000 from his fellow countryman, promising him to allocate a land plot within the city,” the ministry said in a statement. “Since then, the victim has not received either a plot of land or money.”
A criminal case has been initiated against the 56-year-old suspect under article 247 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, an investigation is underway.
For this crime, a person is punished with a fine in the amount of 250 to 365 calculation indices (one indicative calculation is equal to 68 somoni.) or restriction of liberty for up to three years or imprisonment for up to two years.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, 1,856 fraud cases were registered last year (2250 in 2021).
