Mumbai witnessed an unusually hot day on Wednesday (December 4), with temperatures soaring to their highest in 16 years. With no predictions of rainfall or a decline in temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a mainly clear sky tomorrow (December 7).

Additionally, after Wednesday’s conditions, today (December 6) also saw a mainly clear sky. The maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecasted to be 24 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity oscillated between 66 percent and 86 percent.

Mumbai Weekly Weather Forecast

The city is not expected to receive any rain in the upcoming week. On December 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, the city is predicted to witness a mainly clear sky. The minimum temperature is expected to range between 18 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is forecasted to oscillate between 31 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.

The Hottest Day

According to the IMD, Wednesday’s maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius marked Mumbai’s hottest December day since 2008, when the city recorded 37.7 degrees Celsius. Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD Mumbai, highlighted that the Kalina Weather Station had recorded this peak 16 years ago. Interestingly, this comes after last week’s record low of 16.5 degrees Celsius on November 29, the city’s coldest November temperature in eight years.

The Cyclone Fengal Effect

The IMD stated that Cyclone Fengal is responsible for the unusual heat, as warm winds from the south have prevented the city’s temperatures from dropping. Consequently, the heatwave is expected to persist for the next few days.
