ASTANA. KAZINFORM Director of KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerkin Tukumov held a working meeting in Dushanbe with the leadership of the Center for Strategic Studies of Tajikistan, Kazinform reports.

The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation between the two states, the possibilities of regional cooperation and the upcoming high-level events this year, including the visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Astana.

During the meeting, Yerkin Tukumov emphasized the systematic and strategic nature of relations between the two countries, and also noted that Kazakhstan is the leading economic partner of Tajikistan, the second after China in terms of trade turnover. In recent years, this figure has been growing steadily and by the end of 2022 approached $1.5 billion, which is 23% more than a year earlier. The head of KazISS focused on promising areas of the economy, in which the two countries have a large untapped potential for cooperation. Among them are the food industry, agriculture, energy and digital technologies. The director of the Center for Contemporary Art under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan spoke about the importance of research interaction between think tanks and suggested holding a Kazakh-Tajik expert forum in the coming months.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the international conference “Tajikistan and Central Asia: a policy of good neighborliness, mutual assistance, eternal friendship and common development”, which will be held on March 10 in Dushanbe.
