Japanese Government to Grant JPY 200 Mn to Boost Sri Lankan Fisheries


The Cabinet of Ministers today (24) green-lit the resolution adopted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his role as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to obtain the Japanese Yen (JPY) 200 million grant offered by the Government of Japan towards promoting the growth of Sri Lankan Fisheries industry.

Hence, the said grant in proportion to approximately Rs. 435 million, is compelled to provide ice production machines and digital scales for the Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation, fishing gear for the National Aquaculture Development Authority and deep freezers in addition to tractors equipped with deep freezers to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

The grant yet to be offered intends to strengthen the fisheries industry by expanding freezer facilities and supplying modern conveniences in an effort to enhance the value and boost the quality of life of the fishing communities over the Northern and Eastern provinces.
