Moscow Supplies Gas To Afghanistan and Pakistan

The European Union has been the largest consumer of Russia’s oil and gas and has sought ways to cut its reliance on Russian energy for years. On the other hand, Russian gas exports to Europe via Yamal-Europe Pipelines have been stooped due to the Russian-Ukraine war.

Alexander Novak said that Moscow is ready to resume gas supplies to Europe through the Yamal-Europe Pipeline and can also send supplies to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the long term.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce (IEA) welcomed Russia’s gas export to Afghanistan in a statement on Saturday and expressed that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is fully committed to paving the ground for regional connectivity and economic relations with all regional countries.

The statement states that Russia’s gas export to Afghanistan and South Asia are considered beneficial for the regional countries and improved connectivity in the region.

According to the experts, implementing these projects will boost confidence in investing in the country. While Afghanistan has been isolated since the country’s takeover by the current regime, and several projects have been stopped.

However, the IEA officials are keen on good relations with the regional countries and hope to turn the country into a regional and economical transit hub.
